Environmental Health and Health Protection

Local JSNA and Environmental Health (see also Health Protection here)

With partners in the local Health Protection Group and lead officers for Environmental Health we are producing JSNA content to describe the local story of need for Wirral residents in relation to Environmental Public Health and to support the raising of awareness of the issues that relate to Environmental Public Health

The local Health Protection Group is chaired by the Director of Public Health and includes lead members with responsibility for health protection from Wirral Council, NHS England, Public Health England and Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group. The group has a strategic focus on system leadership, assurance and risk management for health protection across Wirral. The group is rresponsible for presenting this 'local story of need' in the JSNA

This includes:

  • Environmental Health - Air Quality (June 2016)
  • Environmental Health - Food Safety (July 2016) as latest version and previous version of Food Safety June 2016
  • Environmental Health - Noise section will be available here in the near future

Air quality: a briefing for directors of public health (March 2017)
Local authorities have a central role in achieving improvements in air quality; their local knowledge and interaction with the communities that they serve mean that they know the issues on the ground in detail. This briefing provides the information to help Directors of Public Health consider the appropriate public health response to air pollution in their area. There is extensive evidence about the health impacts of air pollution, growing media and public interest and an indicator on mortality attributed to particulate matter air pollution in the Public Health Outcomes Framework.
